I noticed the sun shift this week.
It no longer streams in the window by the couch where I do my summer journaling. And I caught myself throughout the day chasing the sun around the house - standing at the window, sprawling on the floor in the patch of sunshine, moving my standing desk around my office to keep the sunshine on my face.
Even though the leaves on the trees near my house are still clinging to their green, fall is truly here.
And the shift in seasons always prompts me to shift my routines.
It’s an opportunity to evaluate what’s still working well for me. And what’s ready for me to let it go.
I’ve been focused on slowing down this Slowtober, making space, and gaining clarity on what I’m making space for.
I’m dreaming a little bigger, celebrating myself a little more.
I’ve adjusted my journaling, changing up some of my regular intention-setting questions, re-assessing what data I’m collecting, reinforcing new habits with my habit tracker.
And I’ll soon be incorporating a little more ritual with my journaling - as I lose the morning sunrise in front of me as I journal, I’ll add candlelight (and then the lights of my Christmas tree!) to make my practice more special and sacred.
My eating, sleep, and movement routines will get their own audit, as well as my hobbies and spaces.
While none of these changes are huge, together they make an impact, enabling me to take better care of myself and be more present for those I love.
What changes do you need to make to take better care of yourself this season?
Use these prompts as written or as inspiration to uncover what you need in your life this week. And know that I’m always here to support you and answer questions you have along the way!
Which areas of your life feel stale or stagnant?
What small changes can you make to breathe new life into them?
What do you need to give up or put aside for a while?
What do you want to invite more of in your life?
What is one way you can take better care of yourself today?
Pull out your cards
Consider using oracle cards or tarot cards with your journaling. Pull a card, and let your subconscious go to work, uncovering ideas and answers you didn’t know were inside you. I’ll often preface my session by asking something like “In order to remain in the spirit of gratitude, what do I need to know about my day?” and then pull a card. I love seeing how many answers I find within.

Love the candlelight idea. I love natural light but in its absence, candles sound fab!
