My old lady dreams came true this Christmas.
When I was growing up, we had an elderly neighbor named Mrs. Dunn.
She was kind and sweet. She planted yellow marigolds and red geraniums along her walkway every summer.
She taught us important lessons like, “You must love one another and care for one another.”
And sometimes, when we were lucky, we were invited up to her house.
It was a magical place; We’d take off our shoes and walk along her plush mauve wall-to-wall carpet to her living room where we’d delight in turning the pages of her coffee table art books.
And Mrs. Dunn would offer us each an Andes chocolate mint from her crystal candy dish.
I decided long, long ago that when I became an old lady, I, too, will have a crystal candy dish and fill it with Andes candies.
Each Christmas, my children gift me a box of Andes candies and I get to tell them about Mrs. Dunn and her crystal candy dish.
This year, I am officially an old lady.
My daughter gifted me a crystal candy dish.
And it is filled with Andes candies.
It’ll serve as a reminder to me of the kind of person I want to be - kind, generous, patient, loving.
And a reminder of how much I’m loved.
I’m grateful for my sweet daughter who remembered this story and decided I didn’t need to wait until I was old to have this.

One Journaling Idea I Love:
Goal Setting
Take some time in your journal to set some goals for 2023. What do you want to accomplish? What habits do you want to adopt? How and where do you want to grow in the new year?
I like to start with a theme for the year and apply it to different categories in my life: health, career, finances, learning, relationships.
Be sure to build in both a way to hold yourself accountable for moving forward in your goals and a way to celebrate your progress!
Work with Me in 2023!
I work with clients both 1:1 and in my group programs to design and live a life you don’t want a vacation from.
My group program, Better Me in 2023, is a journey to rediscover and claim our worth. Even though we’re all inherently worthy, it can be hard to feel it - especially when we’re ambitious go-getters, always on the hunt for the next challenge to tackle, the next thing to learn, trying to outrun the feeling of not enough.
Each month we’ll focus on a new theme and journal our way to self-awareness, self-confidence, and self-worth.
We start on January 2 with a deep dive into all things self-care.

Happy Journaling!
Such a great post, Amanda!
I'll never forget my only visit to the street where my mum grew up - I was 15, and we were in the area for a relative's funeral. Mum wanted to show me her old house, and as we pulled up outside we could see an extremely elderly lady weeding the front garden of the house next door. Mum gasped, jumped out of the car, ran over and sat on top of the wall right next to where the lady was weeding. The lady looked up, surprised.
'Mrs Brewer, do you know who I am?'
'Yes, yes I do! You're JEAN.'
Mum's next door neighbour had remembered her from when she was a little girl, when she used to sit there to talk to her while she weeding her garden. Three decades had passed since she'd last sat on that wall! It was absolutely extraordinary.
This post is lovely. I had a neighbour who used to have FireKing crockery. As an adult I scoured second hand shops till I made a collection of my own. It makes me happy!
